TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer - Data Engineering (Python/Data Engineering): Building APIs, services, tools, and data pipelines that index, retrieve, visualise, and automate the use of engineering and operational data with an accent on backend software engineering, REST APIs, and relational databases. Focus on designing scalable data services, leading architecture and technical standards, and mentoring engineers while supporting software deployment and operational use.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand; domestic and international travel may be required.

What you will do
- Design and develop APIs, backend services, tools, and data pipelines for indexing, retrieving, visualising, and automating engineering and operational data.
- Develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain software and tooling.
- Review and approve merge requests, architecture designs, and software requirements.
- Lead trade studies, set technical standards, and refine and prioritise the product backlog.
- Facilitate agile activities and work with stakeholders to demonstrate, deploy, support, and explain operational software.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers and act as deputy for the Data Engineering Team Lead when needed.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent knowledge in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong Python experience, including designing and building REST APIs and services.
- Experience with Pandas, NumPy, ETL pipelines, SQL, and relational databases.
- Experience with CI/CD, containerisation, Git, issue trackers, and agile development practices.
- For New Zealand roles, background and nationality checks apply because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required; eligibility may depend on citizenship or nationality.
Nice to have
- Kubernetes experience.
- Data visualisation, data science, and numerical analysis experience.
- Web application and user interface development experience.
- Technical leadership or mentoring experience.
