TL;DR

Python Developer (Django/Genomics): Building and maintaining backend services, RESTful APIs, and Python web applications for human genome variant analysis with an accent on code quality, testing, performance, and clinical precision. Focus on designing reliable server-side logic, optimizing relational database-backed systems, coordinating with frontend and domain teams, and supporting deployment, monitoring, and on-call operations.

Location: Remote; the company has offices in Lausanne, Boston, and Athens, with a distributed workforce across Europe.

hirify.global is a Swiss precision medicine company developing the VarSome suite of bioinformatic tools for human genome variant analysis and interpretation.

What you will do

Develop high-performance server-side logic and responsive communication between frontend and backend systems.
Maintain and advance the Python application stack, including VarSome Clinical, VarSome.com, and the VarSome API.
Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, testing, and performance optimization.
Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and domain experts to deliver integrated features.
Support deployment, monitoring, and on-call rotations as needed.

Requirements

At least 3 years of professional backend engineering experience with Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
Experience building RESTful APIs and working with software design principles and best practices.
Good experience with relational databases; MariaDB experience is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with unit, integration, and functional testing, as well as code reviews.
BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Fluent English in written and spoken communication is required.

Nice to have

Experience deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform.
Working knowledge of Bootstrap, React, or other frontend frameworks.
Familiarity with Ansible for configuration management.
Background in bioinformatics or willingness to learn the domain.
