Color and Print Operator

SGS & Co operates a technical production environment requiring standardised prepress colour workflows for printing and packaging materials.

What you will do

• Perform prepress colour correction, colour matching, colour proofing, and soft proofing for printing files.
• Retouch images and adjust colour, tones, grey balance, contrast, saturation, channels, and colour separation using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
• Manage GMG colour management, MX4 proofing workflows, ICC profiles, digital proof calibration, and colour file matching.
• Inspect prepress files for resolution, colour mode, overprint, black plates, spot colours, bleed, fonts, channels, masks, and shadow effects.
• Identify and prevent colour casts, tonal breaks, dirty spots, minimum-dot issues, and other printing risks across offset, digital, UV, and packaging processes.
• Maintain colour standards, calibrate monitors and proofing devices, archive colour parameters and ICC files, and optimise the SOP workflow.

Requirements

• Secondary education or higher; printing engineering, graphic design, visual communication, or digital media education is preferred.
• 1–3+ years of prepress colour matching experience in the printing industry.
• No colour blindness or colour vision deficiency; strong colour sensitivity and the ability to distinguish subtle colour differences are required.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and PDF prepress processing, including image colour grading, grey balance, tonal range, contrast, saturation, and channel separation.
• Knowledge of GMG ColorProof, the MX4 colour workflow, ICC colour management, CMYK overprint, black plate generation, dot characteristics, and paper and ink differences.
• Careful, rigorous, stress-resistant, and able to work overtime during peak production periods.

Nice to have

• Experience with packaging plants, colour printing plants, or digital proofing companies.
• Experience with packaging, folding cartons, brochures, posters, and labels.
• Experience with GMG proofing and colour matching.
