TL;DR
Platform Engineer (Linux/Virtualization): Operating and developing Contabo’s hosting platform across Linux, Proxmox/KVM virtualization, storage, networking, monitoring, and observability with an accent on reliability, automation, and large-scale infrastructure. Focus on analyzing complex incidents to their root cause, planning migrations and upgrades, and designing capacity and hardware improvements across distributed data centers.
Location: Remote in Germany, with the option to work in a hybrid model or entirely on-site depending on proximity to a location.

What you will do
- Operate and further develop the hosting platform, including Proxmox/KVM virtualization, ZFS, Ceph, networking, monitoring, and observability.
- Act as the technical escalation point for Platform Support and analyze complex incidents to their root cause.
- Automate infrastructure operations with Ansible and Git.
- Plan and oversee maintenance, upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and hardware expansion.
- Own a platform domain, make design decisions, document them, and share knowledge with colleagues.
- Collaborate with Platform, Support, Development, Network, and Security teams across distributed data centers.
Requirements
- Training as an IT specialist in system integration, a computer science degree, or comparable qualifications and experience.
- At least 5 years of professional experience operating or developing large-scale Linux and virtualization environments.
- Hands-on experience with Linux troubleshooting and performance, Proxmox/KVM or comparable virtualization technologies, Ansible, and monitoring solutions such as Zabbix or Prometheus/Grafana.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including BGP, L3 routing, VLAN, and Open vSwitch.
- Experience with Git/CI and Bash or Python scripting.
- Very good German and English skills required.
Nice to have
- Experience with ZFS and/or Ceph.
- Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, Vault, PowerDNS, or hosting/cloud environments.
