Junior Data Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Build and ship production data pipelines across near-real-time and batch workloads, from ingestion to storage.
• Develop Python services and APIs used by other teams and products.
• Design and operate databases under production load, including schemas, reliability, and performance.
• Build tests, monitoring, and data quality checks to detect issues early.
• Help keep a data warehouse containing hundreds of terabytes fast, reliable, and cost-efficient.
• Own undefined data problems from the initial idea through production.

Requirements

• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• Engineering depth demonstrated through a computer science or related degree, internships, open-source work, a thesis, or a self-built system kept in operation.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or a similar database, including schemas, indexes, and production-load behavior.
• Ability to start with vague problems, work independently, and take ownership beyond the initial request.
• Rigorous debugging and a strong focus on reliability.
• Comfort using AI tools to accelerate work while verifying their output.

Nice to have

• Kafka or Pub/Sub, dbt, Docker, or Terraform experience.
• Competition results or a project built and hardened independently.
