Senior Design Engineer (Fiber Optics)

Location: On-site in Syracuse, East Syracuse, NY, United States

Base compensation: $105,000–$140,000 per year, plus benefits and additional incentives.

What you will do

• Design next-generation optical connectivity solutions for broadband networks.
• Lead the design, value engineering, and cost optimization of fiber optic cables, connectors, and passive optical network components.
• Advance connector projects from concept through design validation, qualification, and commercialization.
• Define environmental and mechanical qualification testing to meet customer and industry standards.
• Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Global Manufacturing to evaluate trade-offs, troubleshoot production failures, and resolve customer requirements.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and serve as an engineering contact for broadband service providers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• At least five years of design experience in a mechanical or electromechanical field.
• Experience with fiber optic cables, connectors, cable assemblies, enclosures, and interconnect products.
• Knowledge of automated assembly machines, screw machines, CNC, or similar high-speed manufacturing equipment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD platforms.
• Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality standards.
