Product Design Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia; flexible working is supported, with hands-on collaboration required in laboratories and design spaces.

What you will do

• Develop physical mask products from early concepts through detailed design, testing, and production.
• Apply human-centred design and Design Thinking across discovery and product development.
• Create concepts through sketches, physical models, low-fidelity prototypes, and rapid prototyping.
• Develop 3D CAD designs and technical documentation, including part specifications and drawings.
• Build and test prototypes, using user and technical feedback to refine designs.
• Work with product design, customer experience, product management, manufacturing, materials, technology, engineering teams, and external suppliers to optimise performance, comfort, aesthetics, quality, and manufacturability.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience developing physical products through the design and engineering process.
• Strong 3D CAD capability with Creo, SolidWorks, NX, or an equivalent tool.
• Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacture.
• Experience with tolerance analysis, risk assessment, DFMEA, or related design engineering methods.
• Strong creative and methodical problem-solving, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
• Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Nice to have

• Complex surface modelling, high-volume manufacturing, and tooling experience.
• Experience with injection-moulded, liquid silicone rubber, cast, or machined components.
• Medical device, wearable, or consumer product development experience.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, experimental design, or AI tools for design, research, ideation, or problem solving.
