HR Operations Specialist (Japan)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; onsite or hybrid work from the new Tokyo office

What you will do

• Serve as the main point of contact for employee and manager HR inquiries, including onboarding, status changes, offboarding, workers’ compensation, recruiting support, and workplace safety.
• Coordinate with People teams to deliver HR services and route inquiries to the appropriate functional teams.
• Maintain compliance with Japanese labor laws, regulations, company policies, and HR best practices while reducing legal risks.
• Execute HRIS transactions and maintain accurate employee records, benefits policies, leave data, and system integrations.
• Manage contingent-worker agency engagements, track contingent workers, and monitor full-time conversion eligibility.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports, create processes, solve emerging problems, and collaborate with HR teams in Japan, the US, and other countries.

Requirements

• 3+ years of progressive HR experience in a high-growth environment.
• Knowledge of or direct experience with Japanese labor laws.
• Experience using HRIS platforms; Workday experience is preferred.
• Strong organization, administration, customer service, stakeholder management, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Collaborative, proactive, self-starting, employee-focused, and operationally minded approach.
• Native Japanese and business-level English; bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related business field.
