Senior/Lead Software Engineer (Layer1)

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Base pay: CAD 120,000–195,000 per year across Canada

What you will do

• Architect, design, develop, and manage Layer1 software features for physical network connectivity.
• Build control software for connectors, optics, forwarding engines, interface chips, PHYs, and transceivers.
• Develop instrumentation, telemetry, automated tests, and test infrastructure for monitoring physical link health.
• Collaborate with customers, product management, hardware, manufacturing, optics, system testing, and customer support teams.
• Analyze and resolve issues in customer networks and system tests, while optimizing software scalability and performance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor new and junior engineers.

Requirements

• BS with 8 years of experience, MS with 6 years, Ph.D. with 3 years, or equivalent work experience in computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering.
• Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python.
• Knowledge of UNIX or Linux and applied software engineering principles.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and independent implementation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in small teams and lead technical work across projects and features.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of digital communication technologies, including modulation and signal encoding.
• Understanding of IP networking or distributed systems.
• Experience with low-level hardware components.
