Backend Developer (PHP)

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria; full-time, onsite role.

Company

Develops and operates an online gambling platform supporting casino games and integrations with online casino operators worldwide.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and optimize RESTful API services for player actions and financial transactions.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable PHP code.
• Participate in code reviews and apply established software engineering principles.
• Collaborate with QA Engineers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and fix defects.
• Support deployments and contribute to team discussions, training, and continuous learning.
• Work with backend team members under the guidance of senior developers, the Backend Team Lead, and Backend Architect.

Requirements

• Practical experience or strong foundational knowledge in PHP web development, including willingness to work with vanilla PHP and frameworks.
• Basic understanding of JavaScript, Node.js, RESTful APIs, HTTP methods, and web architecture.
• Working knowledge of MySQL or MariaDB, including queries and basic schema design.
• Foundational Docker knowledge and familiarity with Git workflows, branching, commits, and pull or merge requests.
• Strong problem-solving and team communication skills with eagerness to learn.
• Fluent English is required.

Nice to have

• Understanding of software design principles.
• Hands-on Node.js experience or relevant coursework.
• Familiarity with PHPUnit, Codeception, or other unit and integration testing tools.
• Basic knowledge of Nginx, Apache, CI/CD, or automated deployment tools.
