Junior QA Engineer

Location: Bracknell, United Kingdom; office-based with a hybrid working model: 2 days onsite and 3 days from home. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

Salary: £30,000–£40,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

What you will do

• Design and execute structured manual test plans across web applications, desktop software, and API-based services.
• Perform functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Analyse, reproduce, and document defects, providing developers with detailed information for resolution.
• Translate requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria into effective testing approaches.
• Maintain test scenarios, cases, results, and defect records while collaborating with developers, product owners, and technology colleagues.
• Build experience in C# and .NET by assisting with software fixes, enhancements, unit testing, and automated test coverage.

Requirements

• Previous exposure to software quality assurance or testing through work, education, internships, personal projects, or similar experience.
• Structured investigative thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to identify inconsistencies and follow problems through.
• Understanding of software defects, user impact, severity, business impact, and potential solutions.
• Fundamental programming and object-oriented development knowledge, including variables, control flow, classes, objects, inheritance, and encapsulation.
• Basic knowledge of relational databases, client/server applications, APIs, web services, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, and XML.
• Degree-level education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable subject, or equivalent practical knowledge.

Nice to have

• ISTQB Foundation certification or a similar recognised testing qualification.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, TestRail, Selenium, Playwright, C#/.NET, ASP.NET, JavaScript, or SQL.
• API testing experience with Postman or Swagger.
• Knowledge of xUnit, NUnit, MSTest, Agile development, CI/CD, and automated quality checks.
