Professional Teaching Fellow (Biology)

Location: Auckland City Campus, Auckland, New Zealand. The role includes teaching on campus, in laboratories and on field trips, with possible future teaching assignments at international partner institutions, including China, for approximately one month at a time.

Salary: NZ$105,790–NZ$116,929 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Teach lectures, laboratories, field trips and tutorials across the Tertiary Foundation Certificate and undergraduate programmes.
• Coordinate undergraduate courses and contribute to teaching and academic activities across undergraduate levels.
• Develop curricula, innovative teaching methodologies and high-quality learning resources.
• Provide academic pastoral care to students with diverse learning needs.
• Contribute to service activities across the University and wider community.
• Engage with the scholarship of teaching and learning and support research-informed education.

Requirements

• A postgraduate tertiary qualification in biology.
• Subject expertise in at least one of ecology, biodiversity, evolution or quantitative biology.
• Passion for impactful, research-informed and student-centred learning.
• Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds, particularly Māori and Pacific students, and a strong commitment to inclusiveness.
• Demonstrated interest in incorporating te ao Māori principles into programmes, teaching and the student experience.
• Commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the principles of Taumata Teitei.

Nice to have

• Experience developing innovative teaching methodologies and high-quality learning resources.
• Familiarity with different teaching modalities and learning management systems.
• Experience coordinating undergraduate courses.
• A teaching qualification.
