Sr. Software Engineer - Charlotte AI (Hybrid, ROU)

Location: Hybrid in Bucharest, Romania, with office attendance twice a week

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for backend microservices and AI-native platform capabilities.
• Build, deploy, and scale production agents and agentic systems with orchestration, tool use, planning, retrieval, memory, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Integrate hosted, open-source, and fine-tuned language models, including routing, fallbacks, evaluation, and graceful degradation.
• Scale model serving, inference workloads, data pipelines, and MLOps processes for availability, latency, throughput, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Design safeguards against prompt injection, data leakage, unsafe tool use, and cross-tenant access while maintaining auditability.
• Set technical direction, lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and collaborate with engineering, product, data science, security research, and operations teams.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating LLM-powered agents or agentic systems in production.
• Significant software engineering experience with technical leadership of complex, cross-team initiatives while remaining hands-on.
• Strong experience with backend microservices, cloud platforms, data-intensive systems, and distributed-system concepts.
• Strong coding skills in Go, Python, or a comparable language, with willingness to work across Go and Python services.
• Experience evaluating and troubleshooting non-deterministic AI systems across quality, safety, latency, cost, and reliability.
• Understanding of secure design, resilient architecture, testing, peer review, observability, continuous integration, and production operations.

Nice to have

• Experience fine-tuning, deploying, and scaling open-source or fine-tuned LLMs, including LoRA, batching, caching, quantization, and inference optimization.
• Experience with preference optimization, reinforcement learning from feedback, or model distillation.
• Exposure to Go, AWS, Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch, cybersecurity, intelligence, open-source projects, applied research, or technical publications.
