Hardware Solutions Firmware Engineer (GNSS)

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand. Onsite at hirify.global’s New Zealand headquarters. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.

hirify.global develops positioning, hardware, and software technologies for construction equipment and machine control through its joint venture with Caterpillar.

What you will do

• Develop, debug, support, and maintain firmware for compute boxes and GNSS/GPS sensors.
• Implement firmware primarily in C and C++ within an embedded Linux runtime environment.
• Support board bring-up for new hardware platforms, including bootloaders, operating systems, device drivers, and debug interfaces.
• Collaborate with external firmware suppliers to meet technical and schedule expectations.
• Contribute to automated unit and functional testing and support validation, verification, and in-field product testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience with C, C++, and embedded Linux.
• Experience with real-time operating systems, compilers, and debuggers.
• Familiarity with Jira, GitHub, and CI tools in production development environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Intermediate or career-level experience is required; this is not a senior-level position.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAN, J1939, or BroadR-Reach vehicle network technologies.
• Knowledge of GNSS sensors and devices.
• Experience with IEC 61508 or other functional safety standards.
• Experience with agentic development workflows and AI-assisted coding tools.
