Project Engineer (IT Infrastructure)

Location: Remote from South Africa; listed locations include Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria.

Salary: R500,000–R750,000 per year, plus eligibility for a quarterly bonus of up to 4% based on departmental KPIs and metrics.

What you will do

• Lead deployments and configurations for Windows Server environments and manage Hyper-V and VMware virtualization infrastructure.
• Design and deploy network infrastructure, including switches, access points, VLANs, VPNs, routing, switching, and firewalls from SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, or Meraki.
• Lead Microsoft 365, Intune, Azure, and cloud migration deployments, with Azure as the primary cloud platform and AWS supporting hybrid and multi-cloud projects.
• Configure SharePoint, backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery solutions using platforms such as Veeam and Barracuda.
• Join project calls as the senior technical resource, define technical approaches, answer complex questions, and guide implementation while the Project Manager leads client communication.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Sales, and technical teams; mentor junior technicians; provide quality assurance; and document client environments and procedures.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or senior systems administration.
• Proven experience leading or executing server, network, and cloud migration projects end to end, preferably in a multi-client or MSP environment.
• Expert administration experience with Windows 10/11, macOS, and Windows Server.
• Advanced hands-on experience with Hyper-V, VMware ESXi/vSphere, networking, firewalls, Microsoft 365, Intune, and Azure.
• Experience with on-premise-to-cloud migrations, backup and disaster recovery platforms, and AWS core services.
• PowerShell is required; strong troubleshooting, organization, communication, independent work, and technical ownership are expected.

Nice to have

• Microsoft Azure, VMware VCP, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or equivalent certifications.
• Experience with VoIP, Microsoft Teams, Autotask PSA, SharePoint administration, containerization, or infrastructure as code.
• Azure CLI or similar automation experience.
