TL;DR
Product Design TPM (Hardware): Managing the mechanical product design program for a compact wearable computer from concept through EVT, DVT, PVT, tooling, validation, and factory builds with an accent on part release, change control, materials, finishes, and supplier coordination. Focus on taking hundreds of mechanical parts through manufacturing readiness, resolving design and cosmetic issues, and coordinating contract manufacturers and tooling suppliers under tight schedules.

Location: San Francisco, United States; on-site

Salary: $175,000–$250,000 per year

Sesame is developing a compact wearable computer that integrates sensing, computing, and voice-agent capabilities into a lightweight, comfortable, and attractive product.

What you will do

  • Own the Product Design program schedule from concept through EVT, DVT, and PVT, including part release, tooling, validation, and phase exits.
  • Run mechanical part release and change control in the PLM system, maintaining owners, dates, statuses, decision logs, and issue tracking.
  • Manage styles, colors, materials, cosmetic qualification, SKU rollout planning, and mechanical build readiness.
  • Coordinate design validation, reliability testing, failure analysis, and closure of mechanical and cosmetic issues.
  • Manage tooling, materials, cosmetic-part, packaging, and contract manufacturing suppliers, including quotes, purchase orders, samples, and delivery schedules.
  • Travel to contract manufacturer and supplier sites for builds, tooling reviews, and validation as needed.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware program management or mechanical/product design engineering for consumer electronics, including at least 2 years managing programs.
  • Hands-on experience releasing mechanical parts and taking them through tooling and prototype builds such as EVT, DVT, and PVT.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, machining, stamping, cosmetic finishing, tolerances, DFM, and validation practices.
  • Experience managing tooling, materials, or fabrication suppliers and running change control and part release in a PLM tool.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 25%.

Nice to have

  • Experience with wearables or products with significant industrial design and cosmetic constraints.
  • Experience with premium cosmetic materials, finishes, multiple SKUs, colors, configurations, packaging, or accessories.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and tools such as Linear, Arena, or similar issue and PLM systems.
  • Startup experience or ownership of new product programs at a large company.
