Senior Geospatial Data Scientist (Satellite Imagery)

What you will do

• Develop geospatial models and pipelines that fuse AIS data with optical and SAR satellite imagery.
• Detect vessel behavior, anomalies, deceptive activity, dark vessels, AIS spoofing, and ship-to-ship transfers.
• Apply computer vision to satellite imagery for vessel detection, classification, and attribution.
• Build and validate detection and prediction models using large-scale geospatial and time-series datasets.
• Take models from prototype through production on GCP in collaboration with engineering.
• Investigate new data sources and communicate model behavior to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong background in geospatial data science, spatial data, coordinate systems, and geospatial analysis.
• Experience working with earth observation data, including electro-optical or synthetic aperture radar imagery.
• Computer vision experience, such as object detection or classification applied to imagery.
• Strong Python skills and practical experience with predictive modeling, classification, evaluation, and iteration.
• Ability to work independently, solve ambiguous problems, and clearly explain reasoning and approaches.

Nice to have

• Experience with AIS vessel-tracking data.
• Familiarity with GCP, BigQuery, Vertex AI, or equivalent cloud data platforms.
• Experience with QGIS, GDAL, GeoPandas, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar tools.
• Background in maritime, defense, intelligence, or energy domains.
