Staff Software Engineer, User Targeting

Location: Toronto, hybrid

Salary: CA$220,000–CA$359,213 annually for candidates based in the United States; expected OTE is CA$244,000–CA$398,400 annually, including bonus or commission.

What you will do

• Architect and build large-scale systems and services for real-time segmentation, massive data volumes, and complex workloads.
• Extend ClickHouse pipelines with new filters and attributes.
• Own backend systems supporting customer segmentation, improving performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Partner with product managers to define, launch, and continuously improve customer-facing capabilities.
• Lead by example, mentor engineers, and drive architectural direction and technical initiatives.
• Maintain operational procedures, including alerts, on-call rotation, and troubleshooting playbooks.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including backend or full-stack work on high-scale, high-throughput systems.
• Experience delivering customer-facing products on high-scale data systems from problem definition through adoption.
• Proven experience building streaming systems, real-time pipelines, or large-scale data platforms.
• Strong software design, data structures, algorithms, architectural leadership, and technical communication skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with a track record of effective teamwork.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in Toronto.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Sidekiq, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with MongoDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or other data lake solutions.
• Experience with Kubernetes and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Background in distributed systems, API design, monitoring, and software architecture best practices.
• Passion for customer experience.
