TL;DR
Senior Data Developer (Databricks/Data Engineering): Building and governing relational databases and lakehouse data models for higher-education program, student, and enrollment platforms with an accent on SQL performance, PySpark pipelines, dimensional modeling, and data quality. Focus on designing production schemas, integrating transactional and analytical layers, protecting sensitive data, and resolving complex data and performance issues.
Location: Colombia; remote work with strong overlap with US business hours

What you will do
- Design, build, and optimize relational database schemas, stored procedures, views, functions, indexes, and query plans.
- Build and maintain Databricks pipelines with PySpark and Spark SQL, plus dbt models using Kimball dimensional modeling.
- Support transactional SQL databases and lakehouse models for analytics, CRM, and partner-facing applications.
- Implement data governance, lineage, quality checks, source-to-target reconciliation, masking, and row-level access controls.
- Version database changes in Git, deploy through CI/CD, review SQL, document data models and runbooks, and support incident resolution.
- Collaborate with data architects and application developers, mentor mid-level developers, and work with North American, Brazilian, and Colombian stakeholders.
Requirements
- Advanced or fluent English at C1 level or above
- Expert SQL skills, including T-SQL or ANSI SQL, stored procedures, window functions, CTEs, indexing, and execution plans.
- Production experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar.
- Hands-on production experience with Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, and dbt.
- Experience with Kimball dimensional modeling, data warehouse design, Git, CI/CD for database changes, and Jira.
Nice to have
- Unity Catalog administration and Databricks Data Engineer certification.
- Experience with Databricks Workflows, Airflow, ADF, Fivetran, Great Expectations, or dbt tests.
- Exposure to Power BI or Tableau and experience with regulated education, healthcare, or privacy-related data.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development and agentic coding.
