INOVASI 3 - Children's Book Ecosystem Development and Strengthening Local Book Policy

Location: Kalimantan Utara, Indonesia, with travel to other INOVASI areas as necessary. The position is open to Indonesian nationals and permanent residents with authority to live and work in Indonesia.

Duration: 12 months, up to 180 input days. Consultant position.

What you will do

• Provide strategic technical leadership for regional children's book and literacy ecosystems.
• Train, mentor, and strengthen local children's book authors, teachers, and illustrators.
• Guide manuscript development, illustration commissioning, content curation, and preparation of books for publication and school distribution.
• Support provincial and district education offices in developing book management, procurement, publishing, and school library policies.
• Coordinate with national institutions, reading communities, civil society organizations, teacher-training institutions, and other education stakeholders.
• Promote book distribution through community reading networks and monitor literacy intervention results and documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Literature, Language Education, Communications, or a related field; a relevant master's degree is preferred.
• More than 20 years of active writing experience, including a portfolio of published children's books and general-interest publications.
• Extensive experience in children's book writing, editing, production, training facilitation, and capacity building.
• Experience supporting local governments with locally produced books and publishing, book, or library-service policies.
• Established networks with Indonesian children's book authors, illustrators, literacy communities, the Center for Books and Publishing, and the National Library of Indonesia.
• Fluency in written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia is required; basic English is an advantage.

• Previous experience with DFAT or other international development organizations.
• Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
