Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Elastic hybrid, with an office visit once a month in Warsaw, Kraków, or the Tricity area, Poland

Salary: 800–1,040 PLN per day + VAT on a B2B contract

What you will do

• Build highly scalable and highly available cloud-based applications for millions of users.
• Develop backend services for a new fintech initiative from its early stages.
• Design and implement event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Work with Kafka, REST APIs, and asynchronous communication.
• Implement and support authorization flows, ledger, and settlement processes.
• Collaborate with an international, cross-functional engineering team using agile methodologies.

Requirements

• 3+ years of commercial experience as a Backend Engineer.
• Strong experience with Python and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
• Good understanding of REST APIs and asynchronous communication.
• Experience with React and/or Next.js.
• English at minimum B2 level, strong communication skills, and a willingness to work in a hybrid setup in Poland.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of software security and compliance requirements, including PCI DSS and PSD2.
• Familiarity with KYC/KYB processes.
• Experience working in international and cross-functional engineering teams.
