Director of Engineering (Payments)

Location: Riga, Latvia; this is an office-based role and is not remote.

Base salary: €97,600–€146,400 per year

What you will do

• Lead the Connectivity engineering group responsible for core banking connections and file submissions.
• Own reliability and delivery roadmaps, prioritising technical investment and measuring return on investment.
• Ensure payment submission systems handling billions of pounds monthly operate reliably, including on-call and incident management.
• Serve as the engineering site leader for the Riga hub and collaborate with local leadership to develop the office.
• Build local engineering talent pipelines through partnerships with training schools and communities.
• Act as a player-manager who can engage with technical problems, architecture, delivery, and team performance.

Requirements

• Experience building and managing agile teams or departments of 20+ people, including managers and individual contributors up to Principal level.
• Experience working at scale where security and operational excellence are critical.
• Strong delivery management, including accurate estimation, time tracking, velocity measurement, and continuous improvement.
• Clear, concise communication with leadership teams, including non-technical stakeholders.
• Strategic mindset for long-term roadmaps, technical investment, and organisational vision.
• Comfortable being based in the Riga office; this is not a remote role.
