TL;DR
Finance Business Partner - Research (Finance/Research): Providing strategic financial advice, planning, performance insights, and governance support for the University’s research portfolio with an accent on budgeting, forecasting, stakeholder partnership, and financial sustainability. Focus on translating complex financial information into decision-ready recommendations, improving operational effectiveness, and mentoring finance team members.

Location: Auckland City Campus, Auckland, New Zealand. Full-time hybrid arrangement with flexible working options, including working from home and flexible hours.

Salary: NZD 118,000–136,000 per year, depending on skills and experience.

What you will do

  • Partner with senior academic and professional leaders to develop financial strategies, annual plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Prepare financial analysis, reporting, and decision-support insights for planning, performance monitoring, and resource allocation.
  • Translate financial information into practical recommendations for strategic and operational decisions.
  • Lead and contribute to initiatives improving financial performance, operational effectiveness, and organisational capability.
  • Support financial governance, compliance, controls, policies, and performance frameworks.
  • Mentor finance team members and promote continuous improvement, innovation, and service excellence.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Accountant status, such as CA ANZ, CPA, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in finance business partnering, financial planning, budgeting, and performance management within a large and complex organisation.
  • Strong analytical, communication, influencing, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with change initiatives, continuous improvement, strategic thinking, and operational delivery.
  • Strong digital literacy and sound judgement when evaluating and using emerging technologies.
