Refining and Petrochemical Process Optimization Engineer (Industrial AI): Building and commissioning AI models that optimize live refineries and petrochemical plants in closed loop, from opportunity scoping and plant data analysis through customer sign-off. with an accent on process engineering, advanced process control, and industrial machine learning. Focus on validating learned relationships against first principles, integrating plant data with control systems, commissioning models on site, and maintaining performance through process changes.
Location: Remote within the United States; travel to client sites is required, up to 25%.

What you will do
- Scope optimization opportunities with customers, including objectives, process constraints, and economic value cases.
- Lead technical delivery, plan modeling work, manage schedules, and own relationships with customer engineers.
- Analyze plant time-series data, assess data quality, and determine modeling feasibility.
- Build and evaluate inferential models, process response models, and closed-loop optimizers using AI and machine learning.
- Commission models at customer sites, train operators and engineers, and monitor closed-loop performance after go-live.
- Support plant data integrations, tag configuration, control-system connections, automation, documentation, and product feedback for Product and R&D teams.
Requirements
- Must be based in the United States and willing to travel to client sites up to 25%.
- At least 4 years of engineering experience in refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, NGL, or another continuous-process industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Process engineering or process control background with working knowledge of APC, gains, constraints, and objective functions.
- Hands-on experience analyzing plant time-series data and communicating conclusions to client engineers and operators.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with client-facing or operations-support experience.
Nice to have
- Operating plant, unit process engineering, control engineering, or operations-support experience.
- Planning and economics experience, including refinery LP models, APC, or real-time optimization.
- Project or implementation leadership and experience managing technical client relationships.
- Scripting or data science experience, especially Python, and exposure to DCS, process historians, or OPC.
- Experience with industrial AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, consulting, or customer-facing industrial technology.
