TL;DR
Senior Machinist (CNC Machining/Manufacturing): Operating and maintaining CNC and manual machines to produce precision components for fusion-energy hardware with an accent on CNC setup, tooling, prototyping, and dimensional inspection. Focus on switching between production and one-of-a-kind parts, troubleshooting equipment, interpreting GD&T drawings, and optimizing workflows with engineering and production teams.
Location: Kearny, New Jersey, United States. Workplace: On-site
Base pay: $32.00–$52.00+ per hour; non-exempt and overtime eligible.

Develops stellarator-based fusion-energy systems using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils to simplify the path to commercial fusion power.
What you will do
- Operate and maintain CNC machines, manual machines, and basic metrology equipment to produce precision components.
- Set up CNC tooling, fixtures, programs, and workflows for production and one-of-a-kind parts.
- Read blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and GD&T requirements.
- Perform equipment maintenance, troubleshoot CNC machines, and coordinate with outside vendors when needed.
- Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturing processes, productivity, and safety.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience operating 3-axis CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a prototyping setting and with HEM machining and tooling techniques.
- Hands-on experience with manual lathes and mills, CNC setup, programming, and operation.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric dimensions and tolerances.
- Experience using precision measurement tools and resolving machining issues with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, communicate technical information, prioritize tasks, and follow safety procedures.
Nice to have
- Machining certification or formal training in a related field.
- Experience with Fusion 360 CAD/CAM for CNC programming.
- Experience machining steel, copper, nickel alloys, plastics, and composites.
- Knowledge of milling, turning, drilling, and grinding.
- Willingness to cross-train in new technologies and machining techniques.
