TL;DR
Staff Technical Program Manager (Hardware NPI Test) (automotive/robotics): Planning and coordinating manufacturing test readiness for safety-critical hardware modules such as lidar, computers, and pods with an accent on EOL testing, yield analysis, and change control. Focus on launching hardware products, managing contract manufacturers, resolving cross-functional risks, and driving readiness from prototype development through high-volume manufacturing.

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $181,000–$290,000 per year, plus annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits

What you will do

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Hardware NPI test activities across design engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, supply chain, and contract manufacturing.
  • Drive readiness of hardware modules, including lidar, computers, and pods, for manufacturing end-of-line testing.
  • Coordinate with contract manufacturers, development teams, systems engineers, and test technical leads to resolve schedule and execution issues.
  • Track manufacturing test yield, test data, and Pareto analysis, and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Prepare readiness updates, risk assessments, and mitigation plans for weekly hardware program reviews.
  • Run the Hardware Test Change Control Board from B-sample onward and manage change-request schedules and execution.

Requirements

  • Experience managing engineering changes during short-schedule development cycles.
  • Experience developing safety-critical hardware and launching new hardware products through their life cycles.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and end-of-line test processes and test data management.
  • Strong PLM experience with tools such as Arena.
  • Experience with project and task management tools such as Smartsheet, MS Project, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Experience managing complex hardware development programs and manufacturing processes; seven or more years is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace and defense, or medical devices.
  • Experience moving prototype products to high-volume manufacturing or bringing up new production lines in Asia.
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, the full product lifecycle, or Agile development methodology.
