TL;DR
People and Finance Assistant (HR/Finance): Supporting recruitment, onboarding, payroll, HRMIS administration, petty cash, bank reconciliations, and financial transactions in an Ethiopia field office with an accent on personnel documentation, compliance, and cash controls. Focus on maintaining accurate HR and finance records, reconciling accounts, supporting staff payments, and coordinating operational requirements with field and country-office teams.

Location: Assosa, Ethiopia; travel to the field as necessary

What you will do

  • Support recruitment for national staff positions up to Grade 9, including vacancy announcements, CV screening, interviews, reference checks, offers, and placement.
  • Coordinate onboarding, orientation, contracts, personnel documentation, payroll inputs, insurance updates, and HRMIS data maintenance.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and follow up on promotions, transfers, contract extensions, disciplinary letters, and medical insurance claims.
  • Process bank, cash, petty cash, invoice, withholding tax, and staff cash-advance transactions in line with IRC and donor requirements.
  • Prepare petty cash, cash-count, and monthly bank reconciliations, and maintain supporting records.
  • Compile HR metrics, training-status updates, employee contact data, payroll information, and insurance reports.

Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma in Human Resources, Accounting, Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 0 years of experience for BA degree holders; NGO experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities proactively.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, preferably with HRMIS systems.
  • Knowledge of English is mandatory.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in an NGO context.
  • Fluency in the local language and familiarity with the regional context.
