- Develop and qualify materials and manufacturing processes for metallics, composites, adhesives, and coatings.
- Support material selection and process recommendations against structural, thermal, and environmental requirements.
- Conduct material characterization, process validation, and operational oversight.
- Prepare material and process specifications, test reports, and technical procedures.
- Collaborate with design, analysis, manufacturing, supplier, and internal teams while solving technical challenges and mentoring junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 2 years of experience in materials and processes engineering, preferably in aerospace or other high-reliability industries.
- Experience with material characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, microscopy, and nondestructive testing.
- Experience implementing materials and process qualification activities.
- Experience with CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
- For New Zealand roles, nationality and background checks apply because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required; eligibility may depend on citizenship and dual-nationality status.
Nice to have
- Strong understanding of composites engineering, including classical lamination theory, material characterization, analysis, and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of modelling and structural analysis.
- Experience with cryogenic systems, thermal protection systems, pressurized systems, mechanical moving assemblies, fluid systems, or instrumentation and controls.
- Hands-on composites manufacturing experience.
Culture & Benefits
- Work in a small, high-performing team focused on learning and growth.
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and program teams.
- Work on real aerospace hardware and meaningful space missions.
