Consultant - Cost-Evidence-Based Funder (Humanitarian Funding)

Location: London, UK; the consultancy is based out of the USA, UK, or Kenya.

Payment rate: US$90 per hour, up to a maximum of US$64,800.

What you will do

• Develop a cost-evidence-based funder strategy, workplan, and objectives and key results in collaboration with the Best Use of Resources team and External Relations.
• Write five public-facing articles for the Effective Altruism Forum or a similar publication.
• Prepare eight funder briefs covering giving criteria, high-likelihood opportunities, and relationship-building approaches.
• Identify and prioritize funding opportunities, including a master opportunity list and 15 concept notes.
• Build back-of-the-envelope calculations for cost-effectiveness and room for more funding.
• Lead review sessions and provide written feedback on approximately 5–10 BOTECs produced by BUR team members.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of cost-evidence-based funding or fundraising experience, including success securing or disbursing multi-year grants of more than $5 million.
• Strong quantitative skills and the ability to build, interpret, and defend cost-effectiveness analyses or BOTECs in donor conversations.
• Excellent writing and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, with fluency in cost-evidence-based funder terminology.
• Strategic and proactive approach, with the ability to design and prioritize an independent workplan.
• Experience managing complex projects and multiple stakeholders in a large organization.
• Fluent English required. French is an advantage.

Nice to have

• At least 3 years of experience working in low- or middle-income countries.
• Experience analyzing humanitarian programming in fragile and conflict-affected situations.
• Experience building and using AI tools to support analysis.
• French language skills.

Culture & Benefits

• Part-time consultancy for six months, from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027.
• Approximately 20 hours per week and 520 hours in total.
• Monthly invoicing, with payment within 30 calendar days after invoice approval and successful completion of deliverables.
• Fees are all-inclusive; per diem, benefits, insurance, and expenses are not provided unless separately agreed in writing.
