Motion Design Lead

Location: New York City office, hybrid schedule with in-office work most days and some flex days from home

Salary: $110,000–$125,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Conceptualize and execute motion design for branded long-form and short-form video, social content, and internal projects.
• Partner with art and creative directors to develop Vox Media’s motion design vision and visual voice.
• Provide creative direction and actionable feedback to freelance motion designers, animators, and 3D artists.
• Establish motion design and animation standards, workflows, techniques, and brand guidelines.
• Manage motion timelines, milestones, risks, asset handoffs, and delivery across multiple projects.
• Collaborate with writers, producers, video editors, clients, vendors, and external creative resources; attend shoots when VFX are involved.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant industry experience in motion design, including leadership experience guiding teams or freelancers.
• Fluency in Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma.
• Strong visual storytelling skills across motion graphics, VFX, and 3D.
• Ability to combine hands-on execution with creative leadership and project oversight.
• Strong understanding of visual design, aesthetics, typography, composition, color, and visual hierarchy.
• Portfolio or reel link required; applications without one will not be considered.

Nice to have

• Background in graphic design.
• Deep awareness of emerging motion design trends, tools, and techniques.
