Software Engineer (Node.js/TypeScript)

Location: Edinburgh, Glasgow or Newcastle, United Kingdom. Hybrid working with 2 days per week onsite.

Salary: up to £57,000 per year plus annual bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, test and maintain scalable, resilient applications for motor insurance products and services.
• Contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and solution design through deployment and ongoing support.
• Develop and maintain applications using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Write and maintain automated unit tests with Jest.
• Collaborate with engineers, product owners, business analysts, architects and other cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
• Contribute ideas, challenge existing approaches and support continuous improvement in technology and ways of working.

Requirements

• Proven experience developing and maintaining applications with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles and best practices.
• Experience delivering software through development, testing, deployment and ongoing support.
• Hands-on experience with automated testing and Jest.
• Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional Agile teams and communicating technical concepts effectively.
• Ability to work from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Newcastle with regular office attendance.

Nice to have

• Experience building and operating applications in AWS.
• Knowledge of cloud-native architectures and operational best practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, monitoring, observability and performance optimisation.
