Senior Technical Specialist (Network Operations)

Location: 100% onsite at the Network Operations Centre in Macquarie Park, Sydney, Australia; 24x7 support on a rotating roster.

What you will do

• Lead the resolution of complex and high-severity faults across the Transport network.
• Provide technical direction during major incidents and act as the primary escalation point during shifts.
• Manage problem resolution, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and supplier closure activities.
• Review and approve network designs, new technologies, planned works, and significant changes.
• Analyse service levels and KPIs, improve alarm monitoring, and identify automation opportunities.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, managed service providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders while mentoring operational staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting multi-vendor IP and/or Carrier Ethernet networks, including Nokia, Cisco, or Huawei.
• Strong knowledge of BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, LDP, Segment Routing, VPLS, Epipe, L3VPN, EVPN, and QoS.
• Experience with service operations, performance and fault management, high-severity incident leadership, and cross-domain technical escalations.
• Experience managing vendors, delivering projects, influencing stakeholders, and communicating technical information to business leaders.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, mentor peers, and provide operational leadership on a rotating roster.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Ansible, and automation in Service Assurance processes.
• Vendor certifications such as CCNP or NRS II.
