TL;DR
Research Fellow (Dementia, Auditory Perception and Music) (Cognitive Science): Designing and delivering auditory-perception studies with older adults and people living with dementia, analysing research data, and publishing findings with an accent on ageing, Alzheimer’s disease, and music in dementia care. Focus on developing experiments, engaging clinical and community participants, interpreting complex data, and translating findings for academic, clinical, and community audiences.
Location: Auckland City Campus, Auckland, New Zealand. Full-time position with flexible employment practices, including working from home and flexible hours.
Salary: NZ$99,788 per annum. Fixed-term for 14 months, starting 1 July 2027.

What you will do
- Design and implement auditory-perception research involving older adults and people living with dementia.
- Recruit and engage participants across research and clinical settings.
- Collect, manage, analyse, and interpret research data.
- Prepare publications, presentations, and other research outputs.
- Work with academic, clinical, community, and research partners to communicate and translate findings.
- Support and mentor research students where appropriate.
Requirements
- PhD in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, or a related discipline.
- Research experience in cognitive science or a related field.
- Experience working in research or care settings with older adults, particularly people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
- Strong academic writing, project management, interpersonal, independent-working, and collaborative skills.
- Applications must include a cover letter, CV, publication and preprint list, and academic references.
Nice to have
- Experience with R for data analysis.
- Experience developing experiments with JavaScript, Python, or a related language.
- Experience supervising or coordinating research assistants.
- Experience with ecological momentary assessment methods.
- Strong publication record in cognitive science or a related discipline.
