TL;DR
Director, Supplier Relations APAC (Telecommunications): Leading supplier strategy, regional carrier partnerships, and a team of supplier relations specialists across APAC with an accent on procurement, COGS optimization, route quality, and telecommunications compliance. Focus on negotiating supplier agreements, translating demand into capacity, optimizing traffic allocation through performance analytics, and resolving network and SLA escalations.

Location: Remote, based in Australia or Japan; approximately 20–25% regional travel is required for supplier engagements and internal team alignment.

What you will do

  • Lead, mentor, and manage supplier relations specialists and analysts across APAC.
  • Negotiate with telecommunications carriers, messaging aggregators, and OTT suppliers to improve unit economics and expand direct connectivity.
  • Partner with Sales and Product teams to analyze demand, forecast capacity, and support localized go-to-market strategies.
  • Monitor supplier performance, route latency, delivery success rates, margins, and traffic allocation.
  • Implement telecommunications mandates, sender ID registries, and anti-spam requirements with Legal and Regulatory teams.
  • Manage supplier SLA breaches, network disruptions, and service degradations.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in telecommunications or CPaaS, including 3 years in a leadership or senior supplier/carrier management role.
  • Deep knowledge of APAC telecommunications ecosystems, messaging aggregators, and regional market dynamics.
  • Experience negotiating commercial supplier agreements and optimizing COGS.
  • Experience translating revenue demand into supplier capacity with Sales, Product, and Operations.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using performance metrics and data tools for route optimization.
  • Professional fluency in English is requested, with the role based in Australia or Japan.

Nice to have

  • Professional fluency in an additional APAC language, such as Japanese, Mandarin, or Bahasa.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Business, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of SMPP, SIP, REST APIs, and A2P/P2P messaging.
