Senior / Staff Behavioral Engineer

Location: On-site in NYC, Boston, Los Angeles, or San Francisco

Salary: $276,960–$363,510 per year

What you will do

• Investigate abuse and risk by analyzing logs, interviewing support and operations teams, and reconstructing user and employee journeys.
• Design safer signup flows, permission defaults, rate limits, approval steps, and verification gates with Product, Engineering, and Design.
• Influence roadmaps through planning discussions, written proposals, and trade-off negotiations without directly owning the roadmap.
• Define success metrics and measure behavioral impact through before-and-after analysis.
• Lead root-cause reviews after incidents and near-misses, turning findings into concrete backlog items.
• Track emerging attack patterns and behavioral science research, and create targeted awareness or training where appropriate.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in trust and safety, security, fraud, anti-abuse, or risk-focused product work.
• Technical fluency to investigate logs and data independently and collaborate credibly with engineers.
• Demonstrated success reducing risky behavior through product and process design with measurable results.
• Strong influence skills and experience prioritizing changes on roadmaps owned by other teams.
• Ability to collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Design partners.

Nice to have

• Background in behavioral science, behavioral economics, human factors, or UX research.
• Experience at a scaled consumer technology company, particularly with user-generated content, creator platforms, or payments.
• Experience supporting security compliance programs such as SOC 2.
• Experience as an early or founding hire in a trust, safety, or security function.
