Member of Technical Staff – Pre-Training (AI)

Location: Mountain View, United States. Employees living within 50 miles of a designated U.S. Microsoft office are expected to work from that office at least four days a week.

Salary: USD $119,800–$234,700 per year across the U.S. For eligible San Francisco Bay Area and New York City locations, ranges vary by work location. Additional IC5 ranges are USD $142,800–$274,800 per year.

What you will do

• Develop algorithms, model architectures, data mixtures, and scaling laws for large-scale model training.
• Use data-driven experimentation and meticulous ablations to evaluate training approaches.
• Implement algorithms, run experiments, and oversee flagship training runs on a large-scale distributed stack.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, data, post-training, and multimodality teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, or a related technical discipline, plus 4+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• Professional coding experience in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and data-driven decision-making.
• Experience with or in-depth understanding of large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Nice to have

• Experience in large-scale AI and conversational AI deployment.
• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of engineering experience or a master’s degree with 8+ years of engineering experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in emerging AI technologies and industry practices.
