TL;DR
Subject Matter Expert Manager, Domain Expert - MENA (AI/Real-Time Intelligence): Improving AI models and real-time event detection by analyzing data feeds and geopolitical developments across the Middle East and North Africa, with an accent on Arabic- and English-language event interpretation, data quality, and AI tooling. Focus on making decisions with incomplete information, defining model improvements, leading cross-team initiatives, and supporting region-specific training.

Location: Australia; hybrid or remote. Core hours are 8:00am–4:00pm AEST or 10:00am–6:00pm AEDT. Rotational weekend work and meetings or projects outside business hours are required.

What you will do

  • Provide subject-matter expertise on the Middle East and North Africa, including geopolitical developments and relevant regional data sources.
  • Monitor and analyze the quality of real-time data feeds.
  • Develop projects that improve AI model and AI tooling performance for real-time event detection.
  • Lead strategic initiatives across teams and address critical opportunities or issues.
  • Make real-time decisions and interpret complex events when information is incomplete.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across offices and support region-specific training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Journalism, Political Science, Middle Eastern Studies, security or conflict studies, or a related field.
  • Professional experience using deep expertise related to the Middle East and North Africa in a real-time information environment.
  • Fluent Arabic and English required, including the ability to interpret and succinctly describe complex ongoing events.
  • Fluency with AI tools and LLMs, including applying them to solve problems and improve workflows.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in fast-changing situations and make decisions with incomplete data.
  • Strong understanding of breaking news, current events, social media, and publicly available data.

Nice to have

  • Experience with breaking news desks, wire services, or GSOCs.
  • Knowledge of Farsi, Hebrew, or Turkish.
  • Experience with regional training, strategic initiatives, or AI workflow improvement.
