Lead Software Developer (C/Oracle)

Location: Sydney, Australia; Australian citizenship and eligibility for an Australian Government Baseline security clearance are mandatory. The role offers hybrid work with work from home up to 2 days per week, plus up to 30 days per year from any location worldwide.

What you will do

• Own and evolve mission-critical, high-availability border management platforms running on Unix and Oracle.
• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize backend systems in C, Pro*C, PL/SQL, Unix shell scripting, and Python.
• Provide BAU support, defect resolution, change delivery, performance troubleshooting, and permanent root-cause fixes for 24x7 middleware.
• Support migration from Classic to Dynamic systems, including data reconciliation, parallel-run validation, and cutover activities.
• Participate in on-call support, release promotion, deployment activity, and CAB-governed change management.
• Act as the technical authority for legacy codebases, reviewing code, maintaining documentation, and cross-skilling team members.

Requirements

• Australian citizenship and the ability to hold or obtain and maintain an Australian Government Baseline security clearance are required.
• More than 10 years of software development experience in C, with strong expertise in C, Pro*C, PL/SQL, Oracle, and Unix development.
• Experience with Oracle performance tuning, execution-plan analysis, index strategy, PL/SQL Objects, and complex SQL.
• Strong Linux/Unix experience covering shell scripting, process management, log analysis, and system-level troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting mission-critical, high-availability production systems with formal change control, release governance, Agile, and Scrum.
• Ability to reverse-engineer sparsely documented legacy systems and produce clear technical documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience in border management, immigration, travel, aviation, passenger processing, or visa systems.
• Exposure to IBM MQ, Kafka, system integration, legacy-to-modern migrations, parallel running, and data migration validation.
• Familiarity with Java, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus, Harbor, Docker, or Podman.
• Oracle or ITIL certification and experience in government or regulated environments.
