HPC Applications & Performance Engineer (AI)

Location: Onsite in Bloomington, Minnesota or Spring, Texas. The selected candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or otherwise eligible to perform the role under ITAR/EAR export-control regulations.

Salary: USD 105,500–243,000 annual base salary in Minnesota and Texas; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Benchmark, profile, and tune HPC and AI applications and industry-standard benchmarks across HPE's product portfolio.
• Analyze and resolve engineering and customer performance issues.
• Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical and benchmarking support for HPC and AI opportunities.
• Collaborate with product engineering, product management, and marketing to influence current and future product capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and their impact on performance, features, and product differentiation.
• Lead application-focused performance studies and author technical reports and papers with findings and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, master's, or PhD degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or an equivalent field.
• 7+ years of experience with high-end HPC systems and performance analysis and tuning of scalable HPC applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Mastery of English is required.
• Detailed understanding of multiprocessor and GPU architectures and parallel programming techniques, including OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, or HIP.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, or qualifying refugee/asylee status is required for federal export-control compliance.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale HPC and AI systems and software.
• Experience with HPL, HPCG, OSU MPI, NCCL, or RCCL benchmarks on CPUs and GPUs.
• Experience modeling alternative system architectures using performance measurement tools and projection methodologies.
