Substation Civil Structural Engineer

Location: Fully remote within the United States; California Remote Office (CA99). Occasional site visits to client substation facilities and travel for client meetings and industry events are expected.

Salary: $130,687–$222,169 annually.

What you will do

• Develop civil and structural engineering drawings and calculation packages from concept through detailed design for utility substation and renewable energy projects.
• Review civil and structural designs and support bid and construction package development.
• Perform site design calculations, including cut and fill, grading, impervious area additions, erosion control, and stormwater flow.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, stormwater, and SPCC requirements.
• Review designs, develop junior staff, contribute to proposals, and collaborate with electrical engineers, designers, drafters, clients, and field personnel.
• Provide design support during construction and participate in client meetings and industry events.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in electric utility substation design engineering and reviews.
• Professional Engineer license in the State of California.
• Strong experience with steel and concrete structures, site grading, geotechnical engineering, foundations, access roads, and applicable codes and standards.
• Experience designing and reviewing substation civil and structural components in seismic areas, including foundations, bus structures, oil spill containment, retaining walls, control shelters, buildings, and firewalls.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, client-facing, and Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, FAD Tools, SAFE, SAG10, and LPile.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, georeferenced drawings, surveying, geotechnical specifications, and construction specifications.
