Backend Engineer (AI/Cybersecurity)

Location: London, England — hybrid or remote

Salary: £98,000–£110,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Own backend deliveries and features from design through release.
• Design, build, and maintain services in a microservices-based, event-driven architecture.
• Implement domain logic and process high-volume usage and event data from customer-facing endpoints.
• Build services for operational, analytics, reporting, visibility, and configuration use cases.
• Model and manage domain data, including querying, filtering, and lifecycle management.
• Expose APIs and webhooks for customers, user interfaces, and external systems.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services and distributed systems in the Java ecosystem.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Maven or Gradle, event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, messaging, and distributed system design.
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs, webhooks, and service-to-service integrations.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and modern observability, logging, and monitoring tools.
• Track record of delivering performant, reliable, and scalable applications.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in cybersecurity, identity, governance, compliance, data protection, or enterprise SaaS.
• Familiarity with OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM, Entra ID, Okta, or other enterprise identity providers.
• Experience in startup environments and shaping engineering practices.
• Use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity.
