Principal, People M&A; Lead & HR Business Partner

Location: Mountain View, California, or San Diego, California, United States

Base salary: $204,000–$276,000 in Mountain View; $191,000–$258,500 in San Diego, annually. The package may also include a cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the People workstream for acquisitions and strategic transactions from target assessment and pre-LOI planning through due diligence, closing, Day 1, and post-close integration.
• Establish deal governance, decision rights, operating models, integrated plans, budgets, risk logs, and confidentiality controls.
• Translate deal theses into strategies for organization design, leadership, talent, workforce planning, location, culture, rewards, retention, and employee experience.
• Direct People due diligence and provide risk assessments, cost estimates, executive recommendations, and inputs to transaction documents and retention arrangements.
• Coordinate employee transitions, HR data migration, systems readiness, payroll, benefits, offers, onboarding, and Day 1 support.
• Govern post-close integration and value realization while improving the People M&A Playbook through retrospectives, automation, AI-enabled tools, training, and coaching.

Requirements

• 5+ years of direct leadership of People or HR M&A transactions across varied deal types and structures.
• Experience with global or multi-country acquisitions, including local employment requirements, consultation obligations, works councils, immigration, and cross-border compensation.
• Experience building a People M&A function, playbook, or governance infrastructure from the ground up.
• Background in management consulting, transaction advisory, corporate development, or enterprise integration management, preferably in a global, matrixed, technology-driven organization.
• Fluency with Workday or another enterprise HRIS, M&A data rooms, project-management and analytics tools, and AI-enabled workflow automation.
• Ability to work from the Mountain View or San Diego location.
