TL;DR
Approval Person for Lifting Operation (APLO) (HSE and Industrial Operations): Ensuring safe and compliant lifting activities, validating lifting plans, and overseeing complex Category 3 operations in a large-scale refining and petrochemical environment with an accent on lifting management systems, technical standards, and contractor competence. Focus on validating complex lift plans, preparing lifting dossiers, supporting equipment certification, and investigating lifting-related incidents.

Location: Baku, Azerbaijan; resident assignment, 5 days per week

What you will do

  • Implement HSE policy and the Lifting Management System for lifting and handling activities.
  • Represent management in lifting matters and act as the Approval Person for Lifting Operations.
  • Plan lifting operations and technically review and validate Category 1, 2, and 3 lifting plans.
  • Oversee complex Category 3 operations, including lifting dossiers, competent-person validation, and on-site representation.
  • Advise management, project teams, procurement, and contractors on lifting equipment, procedures, inspections, and certification.
  • Support competence development, audits, reviews, and lifting-related incident investigations.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in lifting and handling operations or APLO-related responsibilities.
  • Experience planning and validating lifting operations and reviewing complex lift plans.
  • Core rigging and lifting qualifications, including OPITO, ECITB, RPO/Appointed Person, or equivalent credentials.
  • Ability to work as a resident professional in Baku, Azerbaijan, 5 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Oil and Gas industry experience.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Understanding of drilling operations.
  • BOSIET, offshore emergency response, helideck, accident investigation, and risk mitigation certifications.
