Legal and Compliance Counsel (Fintech)

Location: Ghana; responsibilities cover Ghana and Nigeria.

What you will do

• Act as the legal and compliance partner for West Africa, monitoring regulatory developments and advising business teams on their impact.
• Support licensing, regulator engagement, corporate and regulatory filings, and compliance with requirements in Ghana and Nigeria.
• Serve as Data Privacy Officer for West Africa and coordinate with the global privacy team on privacy and data governance.
• Develop compliance training, policies, procedures, obligations registers, incident registers, and compliance risk registers.
• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with vendors, partners, and technology providers while advising on contractual and commercial risks.
• Manage entity governance, external counsel, investor compliance, ESG requirements, ESMS implementation, and reporting.

Requirements

• 5+ years of post-call legal experience, preferably including legal or compliance responsibilities.
• LLB degree and relevant professional legal qualification.
• Experience with regulatory requirements, compliance programs, risk management, and regulator engagement.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Strong legal research, analytical, communication, collaboration, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Practical, commercial judgment and the ability to explain complex legal and regulatory matters clearly to business teams.
