Senior Virtualization Engineer (VDI)

Location: Milan, Italy; willingness to relocate to Italy required

Salary: Up to €54,000 per year, depending on seniority

What you will do

• Design, deploy, manage, and optimize virtualization and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure environments.
• Architect and operate hypervisor clusters, virtual networking, virtual storage, desktop pools, image management, and application volumes.
• Develop automation for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, VDI onboarding, and scaling using PowerCLI, Terraform, and Ansible.
• Lead virtualization upgrades, migrations, lifecycle management, disaster recovery, and high-availability initiatives.
• Resolve complex VDI and virtualization incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity specialists, maintain operational documentation, establish standards, and mentor ICT team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience in VMware infrastructure engineering, virtualization architecture, or end-user computing.
• Expert knowledge of virtualization platforms such as VMware, OpenStack, or Hyper-V.
• Strong experience with VDI infrastructure and application volumes, including Horizon or comparable platforms.
• Understanding of virtual networking and storage technologies, including vDS, VLANs, vSAN, NFS, and iSCSI.
• Fluent written and spoken English and willingness to relocate to Italy.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience with vRealize Automation, Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation systems.
• VMware VCAP-DCV, Citrix CCA-V, Azure AZ-104, Red Hat virtualization, or ITIL certification.
