Software Systems Engineer for Satellite Software (m/f/d)

What you will do

• Understand operational concepts, stakeholder needs, and system-level requirements for spacecraft software.
• Develop and maintain top-level requirements for distributed on-board software systems.
• Structure complex behaviour into functions, interfaces, modes, scenarios, and data flows.
• Define interactions between processors, avionics units, payloads, and ground systems.
• Use behavioural and interface models to test assumptions, identify gaps, and maintain requirements traceability.
• Coordinate system, software, and verification disciplines and refine the requirements baseline into detailed specifications.

Requirements

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
• Several years of experience in embedded software, distributed software architecture, or software-intensive systems engineering.
• Good understanding of hardware/software interaction and practical experience with requirements-based verification.
• Ability to structure complex technical information through requirements, scenarios, or models.
• Strong quality focus, teamwork, communication skills, and interest in cross-disciplinary engineering.
• Very good written and spoken English required.

Nice to have

• Requirements engineering for spacecraft, avionics, or regulated embedded systems, including ECSS, DO-178, or comparable processes.
• Experience with DOORS, DOORS NextGen, Polarion, SysML, UML, Capella, state machines, or sequence diagrams.
• Experience with distributed-system interfaces, end-to-end analysis, fault detection and recovery, redundancy, degraded-mode operation, real-time operating systems, or on-board communication technologies.
• Knowledge of German.
