Backend Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Location: Remote-first, work-from-home position; salary is determined by geographic zone

Salary: $128,000–$184,000 annual base salary, depending on geographic zone

What you will do

• Design, build, and ship internal tooling and integrations that reduce repetitive manual work.
• Develop solutions for file processing, migrations, eligibility, contracting, billing, and workflow automation.
• Investigate implementation and escalation issues, identify root causes, and contribute to preventative fixes.
• Extend reusable templates, standards, and API-driven automation workflows instead of creating one-off customizations.
• Use AI-assisted development and collaborate with commercial, product, and engineering stakeholders.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and support incident triage and internal investigations.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience writing readable, tested, and efficient production code.
• Strong Ruby on Rails experience, or strong backend experience in another language with the ability to ramp up on Rails.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, relational databases, APIs, and integrations across service boundaries.
• Hands-on use of AI coding assistants with a quality-conscious approach.
• Experience with workflow-automation platforms such as Tines, n8n, or similar tools.
• Strong debugging, optimization, communication, and SDLC skills, plus the ability to work with unfamiliar codebases.

Nice to have

• Experience with React or Vue.
• Healthcare or other regulated, data-sensitive domain experience.
• Solutions engineering, implementation, or customer-facing technical experience.
