What you will do

• Define and drive the long-term Applied Science strategy for ranking, aligning investments with customer needs and business priorities.
• Lead the development of machine learning models for retrieval, ranking, and personalization across discovery surfaces.
• Build and develop a high-performing team of Applied Scientists through mentorship, scientific rigor, and continuous learning.
• Balance relevance, diversity, monetization, marketplace health, and operational efficiency.
• Invest in scalable machine learning platforms, data infrastructure, and experimentation frameworks.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, UX, and senior leadership to shape priorities and organizational strategy.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading Applied Science or Machine Learning organizations.
• Deep expertise in machine learning for ranking and recommender systems, including learning-to-rank and personalization.
• Strong understanding of experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling, and evaluation methodologies.
• Experience deploying and operating large-scale ranking systems in production.
• Ability to translate customer problems into scientific solutions and balance customer, operational, and commercial objectives.
• Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and cross-functional leadership skills.
