TL;DR
Mission Operations Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and validating operational products for satellite LEOP and commissioning with an accent on spacecraft operability, flight rules, procedures, mission databases, and end-to-end readiness. Focus on coordinating critical-phase operations, preparing propulsion manoeuvres, validating simulations and rehearsals, and supporting spacecraft handover to routine Operations.
Location: Based in Barcelona or able to relocate to Spain; on-site role at the Barcelona headquarters. Temporary shift work is required during LEOP, commissioning, end-to-end tests and rehearsals, with occasional travel to ground-segment or test sites.
Company
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based satellite company developing a constellation that enables standard commercial devices to communicate directly from space.
What you will do
- Design and consolidate spacecraft operational concepts covering inter-satellite links, operational modes, onboard autonomy and FDIR.
- Own the operations handbook, FOP catalogue, flight rules, mission database requirements, constraints and configuration control.
- Define spacecraft configurations, command sequences, telemetry expectations, readiness criteria, hold and abort criteria, contingency actions and post-manoeuvre assessments.
- Coordinate end-to-end tests and operational rehearsals, validating procedures against the Mission Control System and test environments.
- Prepare and execute LEOP and commissioning plans as a system-level representative through handover to routine Operations.
Requirements
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of experience in spacecraft systems and mission-operations engineering.
- Experience supporting at least one LEOP, commissioning campaign or comparable critical mission phase.
- Experience developing and validating FOPs, flight rules, TM/TC databases, MCS displays, alarms, end-to-end tests or operational simulations.
- Understanding of spacecraft subsystem interactions, with the ability to diagnose and communicate problems methodically during critical activities.
- Professional working proficiency in written and spoken English, together with strong technical writing and configuration-control skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with continuous or near-continuous TM/TC through GEO relay or inter-satellite links.
- Experience planning or supporting LEO electric-propulsion manoeuvres; Hall-effect thruster experience is valued.
- Knowledge of ECSS PUS, onboard control procedures, CCSDS packet services and CFDP.
- Experience with Python, spacecraft simulators or hardware-in-the-loop environments, plus familiarity with warm-redundant avionics and autonomous FDIR.
Culture & Benefits
- Ownership-focused, collaborative work culture with emphasis on humility, impact and teamwork.
- 50% coverage of eligible courses or master’s degrees up to 5% of salary, plus Spanish and Catalan classes.
- 50% coverage of private health insurance and Urban Sports Club, with a flexible schedule.
- Flexible compensation through Cobee for meals, transport and childcare.
- Buddy support from the first day, leisure and sports activities, catering and on-site parking with 50% of the cost covered.
