Senior Software Engineer - Orchestration

Location: Fully remote within Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 139,869–167,849.50 per year

What you will do

• Design and implement features and performance improvements for metadata services, including discovery APIs, catalogs, lineage, and run history.
• Build, test, review, and optimize maintainable backend code and reusable components.
• Write technical designs, explain trade-offs, review pull requests, and contribute to feature and sprint planning.
• Troubleshoot production issues, participate in on-call rotation, and create post-mortems and mitigation plans.
• Collaborate with product managers, QE, customer support, and engineering peers to deliver scalable, reliable services.
• Use AI coding assistants and conversational AI to support development and create or review SDLC artifacts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software industry experience designing and building backend services.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud computing, code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and technical design.
• Proficiency in a backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to lead feature-level work independently, identify design flaws, and communicate technical trade-offs.
• Fluency with AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI for software development and SDLC documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with ETL, ELT, cloud data platforms, metadata, catalogs, lineage, or discovery systems.
• Experience with GraphQL APIs and high-throughput, multi-tenant data services.
• Familiarity with BuildKite, Datadog, Grafana, analytics engineering, or the dbt ecosystem.
